The Ancient Past

I found this ancient landscape that had been overlaid with modern engineering fascinating. There is one gorge near the major plant that contains thousands of the oldest known carvings in Australia.

This was the beginning of the path.

It was rock hopping for the first km  but stunning.
It then eventually opened out into a wider valley and we walked in to the end you can see, up over the ridge on the right and back down another gully. We could have just kept walking. We were the only people there and the feeling of the place was tangible.
The amazing aspect of this area came home to us when we climbed to the top of the ridge and could see the gas flame from the massive plant, sitting on top of the hills like an ancient religious site.
Whilst the carvings were mostly near the mouth of the gorge the walk was up there as a highlight of our time in the area.
