Red Dog - Hi Scottie I found him.

Red Dog is certainly a legend in the Dampier region. For fourteen years he hitched rides in cars and buses between Dampier, Karratha and Roebourne. If he was not delivered to the particular place he wanted to go he simply refused to get out of the vehicle. People would go miles out of their way to get him where he wanted to be as everyone knew him. On the mine busses he always sat in a seat on his own behind the driver. The miners moved out for him. A family once took him to Perth for a holiday with them. He enjoyed the surf and convincing people on the beach to share their lunch with him until he disappeared. The family was devastated and went home to Dampier dreading having to tell everyone what had happened.
Guess who had beaten them home!
Apparently there was a movie made about him.
