Longreach was very hot and as we were sitting in a park having lunch a passing elderly lady welcomed us to a very late summer. She informed us that Longreach had had 40 days over 40 degrees during January and February. She assured us however with great authority that the rain was coming and then the desert Winter would start.
We found a sun screen in Crazy Craigs to tape onto the back window of the Big Red Car to deflect rocks that were being thrown up by the van and headed out across the dirt to Muttaburra - the home of the Muttaburrasaurus langdoni (bird hipped).
A large area around Winton and Muttaburra has become dinosaur bone heaven for archaeologists and fossickers. (If you are interested you could Google a man called Douglas Langdon)
Muttaburra has about 40 buildings but has embraced tourism and turned a "pull of " into a camp ground with 6 powered sites. Don't laugh - we got the last one. It seems grey nomads will go anywhere to fish and the Thomson River has great Yellow Belly.

It was a beautiful evening and so the Old Bird got stuck into her Outback Blog.
